2006 Photos : Hi, Craig here. In case there's any confusion, this year my brother Cliff was the camp photographer. He is currently out of the country but we are working together to try and get the 2006 photos up ASAP. There are a lot of photos (over 7,000!) to go through and it is a slow process sorting, editing, and uploading them. Some of the photos will be up by Sunday and more should be added soon after. Thank you for your patience!!

and now a word from my brother:

Dear Steens Campers, Families, Coaches, and Staff,
At long last, here are the 2006 photos from camp. There are about 4,500 photos (very high resolution 12 megapixel images, taking up about 20GB of total memory). It took a long time to edit and organize these photos, so thanks for your patience.
For those of you interested in having prints made, you have two options. First, you can order photos directly from SmugMug.com (the cost of prints reflect the minimum prices that SmugMug charges…I make no profit from these sales). Second, you can download the photo files, copy them to removable media (such as a CD or USB memory stick), and then order prints at your favorite photofinisher. (For inexpensive prints, I recommend Walmart or Costco.)
A couple of notes about the photos. First, you'll notice that there are many redundant photos that look almost the same. I did this in order to give camp participants the opportunity to choose their favorite photos of themselves, friends, or scenes. Second, you'll see a few photographs of Native American projectile points (arrowheads). I want to stress the fact that these arrowheads were found, photographed, and then LEFT at the location where they were discovered. I often find arrowheads on Steens Mountain and in surrounding areas, and I believe it's important to leave artifacts where they are found for several reasons: primarily, to respect the ethics of archeology (every artifact helps archeologists interpret the history of the mountain), and to respect federal and state laws that prohibit the collection of artifacts. For those of you interested in the archeology of Steens Mountain and Eastern Oregon, I highly recommend a visit to the High Desert Museum in Bend.
I have turned on a feature on Smugmug.com that allows users to download the full-size resolution file for each photo. As a professional photographer, please respect my desire to maintain the copyrights to my photos and intellectual property. Therefore, feel free to download, print, and share the photos for personal use, but please DO NOT use any of these photos for commercial or profit use unless you first obtain my permission. I can be contacted by e-mail at CliffVolpe@gmail.com.
A big thanks goes out to my brother, Craig Volpe, who helped me tremendously by uploading all these photos to the internet, and also to Heidi, assistant cross country at Bend High School, who helped me take photos during first session of camp.
Thanks for a great Steens camp in 2006…I think I finally got all the dirt and mud cleaned from my camera, lenses, and gear. I hope everyone has a great running or coaching cross country and track season…and I hope to see you on the mountain in the future.
   All the best,
